Partial foot amputee being accurately measured on Volumental scanner

#FootEquity in Action: How Neotrek is Scaling Precision Fit

By Volumental

Most footwear brands design for the “average” foot. Neotrek was created for everyone else.

Founded by partial-foot amputee Joe Sherbanee, Neotrek was born out of frustration and a vision. “I didn’t want to settle for off-the-shelf solutions that treated my foot difference as an afterthought,” Joe explains. “I wanted something that looked and felt as intentional as what you'd find in any outdoor or activewear brand.”

That idea grew into a mission: delivering what Neotrek calls #FootEquity; the belief that everyone, regardless of anatomy, deserves footwear that fits their body, supports their lifestyle, and makes them feel seen.

It Started with Socks

For Joe, even finding a sock that fit properly after his surgery was a challenge. So that’s where Neotrek began: developing socks made from recycled materials with equitable sizing that worked for both standard and non-standard feet, without calling attention to the difference. But the team knew socks were just the beginning.

Enter: Precision-Fit Sandals, Made to Move

Today, Neotrek is pushing into performance footwear, starting with a fully customized sandal built around the unique anatomy of each wearer. That’s where Volumental came in.

“We’re designing from the body outward, starting with the person, not a mold,” says Joe. “Volumental’s 3D scanning platform gave us the foundation to do that.”

Customers use Volumental’s in-store or mobile scanner to capture accurate foot geometry in seconds. That scan becomes the blueprint for every pair of Neotrek sandals: modifying the footbed shape, contouring, support zones, and cushioning based on each individual’s anatomy.

Importantly, this isn’t 3D printing. Neotrek chose a hybrid approach, using precision data to inform handcrafted assembly with durable materials… prioritizing comfort, performance, and real-world durability over experimentation.

From Friction to Flow

Before using Volumental, Joe admits, “we weren’t really solving fit at all, because we couldn’t.” Legacy methods like foam impressions or plaster molds were messy, inconsistent, and impossible to scale. Volumental’s tech eliminated those barriers. “It wasn’t just a technical solution. It was the right human one.”

That shift transformed Neotrek’s operations. They saw:

- Fewer refits
- Faster delivery timelines
- Higher customer confidence
- Scalable customization

Customers now get their sandals within 2–3 weeks of scanning, built just for them.

“The Word We Hear Most Often Is Seen.”

For Neotrek’s customers, especially partial-foot amputees, precision fit isn’t just a comfort feature. It’s about balance, safety, and confidence. Joe explains it best:

“Even small anatomical variations can throw off everything… your gait, your joints, your posture. An imprecise fit can lead to real pain. With Volumental, we’re not guessing. We’re building around real data, from real bodies.”

That attention to detail is resonating. One of their first testers, a nurse and mom named Tansy, wore Neotrek’s custom sandals in every moment that mattered… at work, with her kids, on the go. She’d lived with limb difference for over 20 years. This was the first time something fit her body exactly.

She posted about her “ampuversary” with humor and pride, rocking her sandals without hesitation. “You don’t need all your toes to stand tall,” she said. Her story, and her confidence, embody the bigger purpose behind Neotrek’s mission.

Building a Better Future, One Step at a Time

With Volumental’s mobile scanner now in play, Neotrek can reach customers far beyond clinics or specialty stores… meeting people where they are, including their own homes. That reach has unlocked new possibilities for scale, global accessibility, and future product lines.

“This isn’t just a tech integration, it’s a values alignment,” Joe says. “Together, we’re proving that inclusive design and scalable innovation can go hand-in-hand.”

And for people like Frank, a Vietnam vet who spent decades folding socks to fit his prosthetic, Neotrek’s work isn’t about flashy technology. It’s about finally being seen. As Frank put it, “My stump smiled.”

At Volumental, we’re proud to power bold brands like Neotrek that are reimagining fit, not just as a product feature, but as a pathway to confidence, equity, and dignity.

Stay tuned. This is only the beginning.
