Together, Zellerfeld and Volumental are closing the gap between a foot and the shoe built for it, bringing individually-fit footwear from novelty to default.
STOCKHOLM, Sweden — June 22, 2026 — Zellerfeld, the leader in full-stack 3D-printed footwear manufacturing,, and Volumental, the fit layer of retail, today announced a commercial partnership that integrates Volumental's precision foot-scanning platform directly into Zellerfeld's custom manufacturing pipeline. The agreement is a commercial partnership between the two companies; Volumental will remain an independent company. Under the agreement, foot geometry captured through Volumental's in-store and online scanning experiences is fed directly into Zellerfeld's 3D printing pipeline, allowing each shoe to be printed to the specific contours of an individual customer's foot.
Zellerfeld evaluated the global landscape of 3D foot-scanning providers before selecting Volumental. The decision came down to three criteria that matter when a shoe is being manufactured to a foot rather than recommended from a size run: the precision of the underlying measurements, the accuracy of the resulting 3D foot model, and the ease with which a customer can complete a scan — in store or on their own smartphone, in seconds, without specialist assistance.
Custom-fit footwear has been technically possible for years, but has remained niche. The limiting factor has not been the 3D printer; it has been the input. A shoe printed to a foot is only as accurate as the data describing that foot. The Volumental–Zellerfeld partnership closes that gap, making individually-fit footwear something a brand can offer as a default rather than a special order.
"We looked at every credible 3D foot-scanning option in the world before selecting Volumental," said Cornelius Schmitt, Founder and CEO of Zellerfeld. "It was the clear choice because the precision and accuracy of their scans are what custom 3D printing actually requires, and the experience, in store or on a phone, is simple enough that any customer can complete it. They have spent more than a decade building the fit technology layer the footwear industry needs. Partnering with Volumental lets us focus on what Zellerfeld does best: turning precise foot data into custom 3D-printed shoes at scale."
"Zellerfeld has built something the footwear industry has talked about for twenty years and never actually delivered at scale: shoes manufactured to your foot, not the average foot," said Alper Aydemir, CEO of Volumental. "For that to work, the foot data has to be right. Zellerfeld evaluated the entire field and chose us — that means a great deal to us. There is no better partner to make individually-fit footwear the default, not the exception."
The accuracy bar required to manufacture a shoe is materially higher than the bar required to recommend one. Zellerfeld's pipeline demands data that is precise enough to build from, not just size from — and by meeting that standard in production, the Zellerfeld–Volumental partnership sets a new public benchmark for what foot-measurement data can and should be.
Zellerfeld customers can now capture the foot data needed for a fully custom 3D-printed pair directly from their own phone or at a participating retail location — powered by Volumental's scanning platform, which is deployed across thousands of stores in 60+ countries worldwide.
