Running stores can now measure how a foot is shaped and how it moves in a single fitting, on the same tablet, ending in one shoe recommendation. The integration is already live in stores.
STOCKHOLM, Sweden and RENNES, France, September 29, 2026. Getting the right shoe has always meant measuring the foot. Getting the right stride means reading the body in motion. Until now those two answers came from two separate systems, and someone in the store had to reconcile them. Volumental's computer-vision and recommendation models turn a 3D scan of the foot into a fit profile and a shoe recommendation in more than 3,000 stores worldwide. OCHY's computer-vision models turn an ordinary camera into lab-grade running-form analysis. Today, the two companies announced an integration that puts both technologies to work in the same fitting session. Both technologies are now live across Runners Need stores in the United Kingdom, enhancing the in-store experience for runners and outdoor enthusiasts across the country.
"Exceptional service has always been at the heart of the Runners Need experience. By integrating Volumental's 3D foot scanning and Ochy's advanced gait analysis into one seamless journey, we're giving our customers access to one of the most comprehensive shoe fitting services available on the high street. This combination of expert colleague knowledge and innovative technology ensures every runner receives advice tailored specifically to them. We're proud of the strong partnerships we've built with Volumental and Ochy to bring this enhanced experience to life," said Andy Dopson, Retail Director, Runners Need.
The Volumental app is the hub of the fitting. It sits at the centre of the store, holds the shopper's record and produces the shoe recommendation, and partner technologies plug into it. Volumental's scanners capture the geometry of the foot (length, width, volume, arch and instep). Ochy plugs in to add what the body does with it: stride length, foot strike, alignment, extracted frame by frame from ordinary video and processed through the same class of biomechanical AI used in elite sports labs. Ochy's findings return to the Volumental app, where they narrow the shoe recommendations to the models that suit both the foot and the stride. The shopper leaves with one recommendation rather than two sets of results to reconcile.
"Partnering with Volumental brings together two technologies that answer different halves of the same question. Volumental captures the shape of the foot and is the system the fitting runs in, while Ochy provides deep insights into dynamic movement, gait and biomechanics. Both are powerful on their own and combining them produces one recommendation grounded in both. By pairing Volumental's foot shape analysis with Ochy's movement analysis, together we make sure runners get footwear that fits their physical foot profile and supports how their body moves," said Khaldon Evans, CEO of Ochy.
"We have never been in the business of hocus pocus. A scan has to end in a better shoe on a runner's foot, fewer returns and a store that sells with confidence, or it does not belong on the shop floor. Ochy holds itself to the same standard: real biomechanics, grounded in the science, turned into results a store can act on. Bringing their gait analysis into the Volumental app gives retailers more value from the fitting they already run, in the same flow, with nothing added for staff to manage. In Ochy we found a partner that thinks the way we do," said Alper Aydemir, CEO of Volumental.
For retailers, it means no second device on the shop floor and no second sign-up. Staff scan the shopper on the Volumental scanner, then start Ochy's gait analysis from the Volumental app, on the same tablet and the same shopper record. Name, email and consent carry across. One fitting, one result.
Volumental and Ochy plan to extend the integration to additional retail partners in the coming months. Retailers who want to add Ochy gait analysis to an existing Volumental scanner, or deploy both, can contact the Volumental team (sales@volumental.com). The two companies will present the integration together at the ISPO event, in Amsterdam on November 3-5.
